one word: schadenfreude

When you see the same unknown word on four separate occasions in one single week, it’s time to look up the definition of that word. At least, for me, it’s time. I first saw schadenfreude on unrelated blog posts, then in a celebrity interview, and finally as the answer to a trivia quesiton on an episode of Cash Cab (best game show ever!!), where the hint was “something New Yorkers are not unfamiliar with”. So I’ve looked it up:

scha⋅den⋅freu⋅de [shahd-n-froi-duh]
–noun  satisfaction or pleasure felt at someone else’s misfortune.

So there you have it. Your word of the week. And now my quest begins for appropriate situations in which to use this new wacky word. 😉
